Remote work has become a more accessible option in the past two years. Moving forward, even as companies head back to the office full time, remote work will continue to be a mainstay for workplaces and workers who need it. It’s an attractive option for many reasons: it cuts down on commute time, allows workers to spend more time with their family, and offers more flexibility regarding work hours. So, if you’ve been enjoying working remotely, don’t panic over heading back to the workplace – you have options!
Remote work is a particularly ideal option for people who value freedom and flexibility, as well as self-starters who are great at keeping motivated. If you’re an independent person who prefers to work on your own as much as possible or an introvert who’d rather keep to yourself, remote work is also a fantastic option. Don’t forget that with remote work you can tailor your lifestyle to your needs more, free from the obligations of heading to an office every day: it’s a great option for people who like to travel, for instance, or anyone who wishes to stay close to their family.
But what kind of remote jobs will exist long-term? Here are some examples.
1. Graphic Designer
Are you a creative person with an artistic background and a flair for marketing and advertising? Graphic design could be the career for you. Aside from your creative vision and some wit, all you need to become a graphic designer is a computer with your design software, meaning it can be done absolutely anywhere. Companies will frequently hire in-house graphic designers, but you can also make a freelance career pretty easily. Plus, if you don’t have experience in this area, it’s simple to build a portfolio without even working: just practice making logos on your own to create a body of work, or sell them to people on sites like Fiverr.
2. Virtual Assistant
If you’re an extremely organized and independent person, being a virtual assistant may be ideal for you. This is a job where you offer administrative services to clients from home – you’ll be scheduling appointments, answering messages, making phone calls, and so on. If you have administrative experience but find working from home more rewarding, this is the perfect gig for you. Plus, virtual assistants are typically self-employed, so this job offers a lot of independence.
3. Web Developer
Are coding, design and analytics in your skills arsenal? Web development is the key to keeping you working remotely. Web developers design, create and maintain websites, also monitoring the website’s performance and making adjustments to the site when need be. Once again, web developers can work for companies but can also freelance, and you can begin to pick up the skills required to be a web developer and create a portfolio at home on your own as well.
4. Freelance Writer
This is what I do! Writing is a great skill because there’s no money you need to shell out to develop it – you simply write. If you possess this skill or have enough time to practice and master the craft, freelance writing is a great choice for a remote worker. You’ll be writing whatever articles, copy or even fiction that your client needs, and as a freelancer, you’ll be able to pick and choose which tasks you feel comfortable taking on. Plenty of places search for freelance writers: online magazines and news websites, cultural criticism blogs, or companies requiring advertising copy. As a freelancer, your job just depends on what you’d like to write about and where your expertise lies.
5. Digital Marketer
A ton of skills go into being a digital marketer, but if you can master them, this is a fantastic job to do remotely. As the Internet continues to expand, so will the need for digital marketing specialists, so it’s worth brushing up on the skills and giving it a shot. You’ll need to learn things like copywriting, SEO, graphic design, analytics and social media – all different components that work together to create the ideal digital marketing campaigns. This is a particularly great job with someone who feels torn between their creative and analytical sides – digital marketing presents the perfect opportunity to make use of both.
Working remotely is a great option for those who require independent or flexible lifestyles, and as an option, it’s definitely not going away any time soon. Decide if working remotely is right for you and if it is, give one of these jobs a shot. These also certainly aren’t the only popular remote jobs, so do some research in your industry and see if anything fits the bill. Make your ideal job a reality!
