Style Nine to Five - Fashion Jobs in CanadaSNTF_5 Pairs of Sunglasses Summer 2018_Inspiration Bella Hadid

Everyone loves playing dress up, regardless of the season and while accessories tend to be every style enthusiasts favourite part of fashion, most will usually pick shoes or bags as their poison. Sunglasses, however, are no doubt a major part of an outfit tying together an outfit’s vibe, especially in the summertime. Eyewear is also having a major moment right now over the last few months with everything from classic styles to bolder trends taking front and centre stage. We’ve scoured the street style blogs and shopped the stores to find our favourite five pairs of sunglasses for the most shade this summer.

Ray-Ban Round Metal Sunglasses

60s Icon
Ray-Ban has to be one of the most iconic brands in eyewear, and their Round Metal is just as iconic. First released in the 1960’s, this style has been worn by some of music’s greatest legends like John Lennon who definitely helped make them cool. They come in a variety of colour combinations, and with Ray-Ban’s online customization tool you can create your own unique pair. These are for sure a pair of shades that you’ll want to hang onto for years to come!

Urban Outfitters Vintage Clueless Square Sunglasses

Valley Girl Approved
Tiny frames don’t seem to be going anywhere and what better way to feed your craving for the trend with a pop of colour? These fun vintage coloured sunglasses with square frames from Urban Outfitters are super fun and come in both bold and subtle colour options. These shades are no doubt Valley Girl approved.

MVMT Stranger Sunglasses

Classic Look
Playing with eyewear trends can be fun, but everyone needs a classic pair of frames that can take them from the office to weekend brunch and wedding season. We love these slightly oversized square sunglasses from MVMT that are the perfect balance of sophistication and edge. The Stranger frames come in both black and tortoise.

Aldo Rirede Sunglasses

Retro Chic
Everyone needs a pair of aviator style sunglasses, but they’re a style that doesn’t always suit every face shape. These retro-inspired oversized aviator frames from though Aldo has got to be the pair that suits everyone, no doubt! They have a thin frame that balances out perfectly the oversized lenses that work great for all faces and has a touch of 80’s to their style thanks to the mesh bridge.

Zara Square Cat Eye Sunglasses

Cool Cat
We don’t know why cat eye glasses took a backseat when it comes to style all these years, but we’re sure glad they’re back with a vengeance! This feminine yet edgy style works perfectly with any outfit from a power suit for the office, a sundress for beach days or jeans and a t-shirt for running errands. This square take on the style from Zara is a great alternative to the traditional cat-eye glasses, and are the perfect excuse to add a second (or fifth) pair to your collection!

Vancouver to Host Canada’s Biggest Sneaker Convention
If you live in the Vancouver area and are a die-hard sneaker/streetwear fanatic, this event is for you. The Vancouver Sneakerheads Group and Vancouver Streetwear Community have collaborated to bring Hype City 3 to the Harbour Convention Centre on June 3rd. This is the biggest sneaker convention in Canada and brings the most popular streetwear brands to your fingertips such as Jordan, Yeezy and the largest collection of Supreme in Canada. During the event, the brands will sell exclusive merchandise like limited editions and rare vintage pieces. If you’re not in the mood to shop you can also spend the day admiring the spread of pop-ups, hearing the stories behind some classic sneaker models, jamming to a live DJ and participating in activities throughout the day.

Nicolas Ghesquière Staying Put at Louis Vuitton
After some speculation that Louis Vuitton might be considering a change of direction, it has been announced that Nicolas Ghesquière’s contract as artistic director of womenswear is renewed. The design house’s owner, Bernard Arnault calls Ghesquière “one of the best designers in the world today” and says he is “very happy that we are continuing our Louis Vuitton womenswear journey with Nicolas.” Since taking over from Marc Jacobs in 2013, Nicolas has been credited with the revival of the French luxury brand. In five years he was able to introduce rejuvenated classics and breathe fresh air and ideas into Vuitton.

Gucci to Show at Paris Fashion Week
The Gucci Spring 2019 collection will be showcased in Paris instead of Milan during Fashion Week on September 24th. The move will tail-end creative director, Alessandro Michele’s French-inspired narrative that began with the Pre-Fall campaign tribute to the Parisian student protests of 1968. The Italian designer staple will also be staging its Resort 2019 collection in Arles, France at the end of this month. But Milan will not have to worry about losing one of their most audience pulling shows for long, luckily Gucci’s move isn’t a permanent one. CEO of Gucci, Marco Bizzarri says they are “looking forward to returning to Milan in February 2019”.

Chloe to Open First Canadian Stand-Alone
We can expect to see the Paris-based designer brand open in mid-June, located in Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto – sitting pretty between Saint Laurent and Mr. and Mrs. Italy. After only operating at a wholesale level through luxury retailers such as Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue, this will be Chloe’s first standalone location in Canada. The 2200 square foot space will mirror the brand’s new concept and will offer the full collection of ready-to-wear, leather goods, handbags, accessories, sunglasses, and footwear. Happy shopping, Toronto!

Rihanna Teases New Lingerie Line
Rihanna is taking her “badgal” status to a whole new level with her highly anticipated lingerie line, Savage x Fenty. The Barbadian pop-star released her makeup line, Fenty Beauty in September 2017 and it was welcomed with amazing success. So why not continue with another business venture? After sharing sneak peeks on her Instagram this week, the internet was buzzing with excitement. Just take our money, Rihanna, just take it.  Rihanna has been vocal about inclusivity being a part of everything she launches – Savage x Fenty will be carrying bra sizes up to 44DD which is a huge jump from the standard 30-38 band size. Mark your calendars for the official launch happening on May 11th.

H&M Vancouver Undergoing Huge Revamp
As if Vancouverites weren’t already obsessed with H&M, the Pacific Centre location has announced it will be undergoing a major expansion and renovation. The store will be taking over the large space directly underneath, formerly occupied by Express which has been empty for a year now. By absorbing this space, the new H&M will be three floors and increase the square footage to over 38,000 square feet. Some speculations have been made as to whether H&M Home might be a part of the addition, as locations in West Edmonton Mall, CF Toronto Eaton Centre, and CF Carrefour Laval have all adopted the concept.

OVO x Clarks Originals Collaboration Launches Today
Last year, Drake’s popular merchandise brand, OVO collaborated with Clarks shoes on their signature Desert Boot. This year, the Wallabee is getting the Drake-approved upgrade. The shoe was launched in four new colours: tan, black, a pastel blue and a bright orange and bears the gold owl – OVO’s mascot. Made in Italy with genuine Italian suede and embossed with the OVO monogram, they are sure to be a hit that sells out fast. They were released this morning online and in stores in Toronto, London, Los Angeles and New York.

He became an assistant professor at Ryerson after graduating in 2012, then went on to become the director of The Centre for Fashion Diversity & Social Change as well as director of the FCAD Design Network. His goal in his new position at the university, which begins in July is to teach young designers to not only be creative in their work, but sensitive to cultural and political beliefs and inclusive of age, race, and size in today’s fashion industry.

Highlights from Coachella

– Rihanna rocked looks planned months in advance, some straight from the runway, including a balaclava from the Fall 2018 Gucci Show
–  Jeremy Scott announces that Moschino is collaborating with H&M at his annual Coachella party
– This year it seems Coachella goers and celebrities alike are ditching the typical “festival girl” style for more adventurous and colourful outfits

Style icon isn’t a title that is earned easily. To attain that high honour in the fashion industry requires time, personal style, and plenty of great outfits. While the women on our list haven’t been on the fashion scene for long, they are laying the groundwork for who could possibly be the next style icons of our, as well as future, generation. Good luck ladies, and may your outfits be ever in your favour.

1. Kendall Jenner

C.V.: Some of us first met this younger member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan in 2007 as part of E!’s reality show Keeping up With the Kardashians. Nowadays she’s busy being the face of Givenchy and Estee Lauder, walking Chanel fashion shows and appearing on many ‘best dressed’ lists.

Signature Style: A classic style with a youthful twist and lots of basics. Her rapid rise to model fame gives her some serious style cred, as does her eye for crop tops and jumpsuits.

2. Cara Santana

C.V.: This gorgeous Texan moved to Los Angeles at the age of 16 to become an actress. Recently she appeared in the hit series Salem and is also dating Jesse Metcalfe of Desperate Housewives fame. Her chic red carpet appearances all over the world have definitely caught our eye.

Like Jenner, she has steadily climbed the model ladder after appearing in Tom Ford’s eyewear campaign and walking Chanel’s SS15 show. Her latest and biggest contract as the face of Maybelline is sure to put her on everyone’s radar.

Signature Style: Cali girl cool amped up with lots of sex appeal

FKA Twigs1

4. FKA Twigs

C.V.:  Tahliah Debrett Barnett, or FKA Twigs, is an English singer-songwriter, producer and dancer and has been described as “the UK’s best example to date of ethereal, twisted R&B.” Since making her music debut in 2012, she has many hit songs under her belt and Robert Pattinson on her arm.

Signature Style: Dramatic minimalism with a fondness for a bold lip

Fashion Jobs Design – Ways to Wear Plaid:

Statement Piece: If you want to go bold with your plaid style, try one plaid statement piece paired with neutrals. By pairing your plaid piece with neutrals you allow the pattern to stand out even more.

Fashion Jobs Design - Ways to Wear PlaidA Pop of Plaid: Use accessories to bring in a bit of the cozy fall fashion trend. Heels and scarves have been some of my favourite ways to bring plaid into my daily fall look.

All Over: For a daring look, try a plaid dress or jumpsuit to rock the trend head to toe.

Mixed: Mixing prints and patterns has been one of the hottest trends over the last few seasons, so why not try mixing plaid patterns?  Try mixing contrasting plaid colour schemes to achieve a look that really stands out amongst the crowd.

Fall Fashion - Crop Tops

It’s no secret that this summer was the season of crop tops. The popular fashion trend has probably overtaken your wardrobe leaving you with an overwhelming amount of belly-baring shirts. With the temperature dropping it might seem like these pieces are better off left for warmer weather, but crop tops are actually a very chic and versatile piece that can easily transition into fall. Incorporate them by layering with cozy sweaters, blouses, and high waisted jeans and by looking for long sleeve or sweater versions of your summer favorites. We’ve compiled a list of style inspiration to get you started!

Fashion Design Jobs – Legs For Days

Style Nine to Five - Fashion JobsFall Fashion - Legs For Days

As fall nears and our summer attire transitions into more autumn appropriate pieces and combinations, I have found thigh-high socks to be a timeless must-have. Whilst most of us scrummage to find dark jeans or dress pants for this chillier weather, shorts or even skirts can still be pulled off in the upcoming months. As a rule of thumb, keep your shorts, skirts and tops looser to give yourself balance top to bottom. Thigh-high socks are another fun piece of clothing that can be styled with various shoes. I love how a simple tan boot looks against black thigh-highs along with a flowy skirt and turtle neck – throwa blazer on top and you’re good to go! The best part? When you get home, post-long-day, these cozy socks will keep your toesnice and toasty all throughout fall and into winter.Fall Fashion - Legs For Days

Fashion Design Jobs – Shirts With Sayings

Over the last few months, sayings on t-shirts have been making a couture comeback – long gone are the days of seeing sweaters plastered with “Angel” across the front (I can’t be the only one who remembers those, right?) in gaudy oversized print.   A simple t-shirt with a sweet saying like, “Love Makes Me Happy”, is a great piece for a casual everyday look, or layer a blazer over it for a funky office outfit.
