With holiday season fast approaching, you may find your schedule completely filled up with parties, gatherings, and other socials, be it for work or leisure. Regardless of the occasion, mastering the art of transitioning your daytime look into the evening will be crucial, especially if you want to cut out unnecessary travel and touch-up time. Who wants to make the trek back home in order to get ready for the evening’s events, when you can do so by swapping out a few pieces, easily stored in a tote bag or your car trunk? I don’t!
See how Style Nine to Five’s founder Christie Lohr transformed one dress from day-to-night with pieces from Vancouver’s shopping destination Robson Street.
One clever way to turn an evening dress into an office appropriate piece is by layering a sweater over top of it. Of course, you want to pay attention to the hemline length, as micro-minis are definitely still not work-safe. In my case, I chose a lace dress that fell just above my knee, and layered on a chunky, knit funnel neck sweater. To further tame the dress for day, I wore opaque black tights and sturdy ankle boots. A wide-brimmed hat and a functional black bag finished up my daytime outfit.
When it came time to transition my look into night, I swapped out my sweater for a luxe, faux fur coat (which you can wear as your daytime coat), removed the nylons altogether, opted to change into a pair of sparkly pumps, and replaced the larger work bag with a clutch. Overall, just by swapping and/ or removing a few pieces, my outfit was completely transformed.
The second component of any great evening look (outfit aside), is some glam make-up and hair. Luckily, you can drop by the newly opened Sephora on Robson Street, which has a full service beauty salon located upstairs from the main retail section, for an evening touch-up, whether you have 15 minutes or 45 minutes for a custom makeover.
