Layering is a simple way to add that personal touch you’ve been missing from an outfit. It’s a great way to reinvent items you already have in your closet, like vests, chunky knit sweaters, scarves and oversized tees and tanks. Once you have the basics, let your imagination run wild to create a unique or edgy look. It can be as simple as pairing a fitted shirt with a cardigan and a scarf or throwing a chunky knit over a feminine dress. It’s easy to overdo it though, leaving you looking messy and bulky. Take cues from some of our favourite trendsetters who layer like pros:
1,2. Regular runway fixture Sasha Pivovarova has mastered the off-duty model look by piling on avant-garde pieces of all lengths, textures and prints.
3, 4. For Mary Kate Olsen, slouchy layers are her style staple. She seamlessly blends grunge, vintage and current fashion to create a look that’s completely one of a kind.
5, 6. While Jessica Alba opts for a more casual and classic style, often mixing natural hues with scarves and cardigans for a chic layered look.
