St Joseph Communications is seeking an Editor-in-chief for FASHION magazine, Canada’s most popular fashion media brand. This role reports to the SVP, Content for SJC’s Media Division.

The ideal candidate for this role has vast experience in fashion, beauty and lifestyle content and has strong print, digital and social media skills along with a deep understanding of the importance of brand voice. They are collaborative and have excellent communication skills as well as the ability to edit and shape content to maintain high standards of quality and journalistic integrity and ethics. This candidate is a supportive and decisive leader who is ambitious and passionate about fashion and beauty and is well connected in the industry.

In this role you will

• Execute the editorial vision for the brand, and oversee its execution on all platforms including print, digital and social media.
• Works collaboratively with the Senior Creative Director and with the Publisher of FASHION to identify new content opportunities and stay abreast of industry trends and developments.
• Work closely with the Sales, Branded Content, Audience Development and Events teams, to maximize the brand’s growth and adapt to our audience and digital landscape including the development and growth of our affiliate programs.
• Manage the editorial team members and coordinate all aspects of the publication’s production across all platforms.
• Leverage meticulous attention to detail in technical editorial and proofreading all content before it goes live.
• Ensure the brand voice is consistent across all platforms and all content has been fact-checked.
• Maintain the quality, integrity and accuracy of the content published across the brand platforms, ensuring that articles are well-researched, engaging and relevant to the target audience.
• Lead the editorial team, fostering a collaborative and engaging work environment.
• Hire, train and manage the magazine’s editorial staff.
• Manage and monitor editorial budgets ensuring that targets for FASHION are met in collaboration with the Publisher and Creative Director.
• Manage deadlines and workflow, overseeing the editorial calendar and ensure that all deadlines are met across platforms.
• Work with other internal teams including the Digital Director and Production and Circulation teams to increase FASHION’s audience and maintain efficiency and quality
• Represent the magazine at FASHION, industry and social events
• Maintain positive relationships with advertisers and partners
• Other duties as required

And a bit about yourself:

• Minimum 10 years of print and digital fashion media experience, ideally with 5 years in a senior role
• A strong understanding of the role branded content and affiliate commerce play in today’s media landscape
• Demonstrated expertise in the digital and social media space.
• In-depth knowledge of the current market and demonstrated ability to anticipate and provide actionable insights into future industry trends.
• Experience in managing publication or media budgets
• Broad knowledge of Canadian and international fashion designers
• A deep appreciation for fashion design
• Very strong editing and writing skills
• A post-secondary degree in journalism would be an asset
• Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
• Proficient at Word, InCopy and Excel
• Participative team player who works well under pressure
• Excellent organizational skills
