Description

From sketch to production

The Role

We're looking for an experienced swimwear designer and developer to work with us part-time as an independent contractor. You'll take seasonal concepts through design, tech packs, fit and sampling until each style is approved for production.

We estimate 4-10 hours per week, with more around development deadlines. You set your own schedule and make plans for direction, costing, timelines and factory relationships.

Where You'll Drive Impact

Design & Line Development. Translate creative direction, mood boards and trend insight into sketches, flats, colourways and prints. Help plan each season's line across swim and lifestyle.

Technical Development. Create and maintain complete tech packs: specs, construction details, BOMs, trims and grading. Factories should be able to build from them without guessing.

Fit & Sampling. Run fit sessions, write fit comments and manage sample rounds with our factories. Keep our fit consistent across the full size range.

Materials, Costing & Production Hand-off. Source and evaluate fabrics and trims, with a focus on recycled and lower-impact options. Hit target costs and dates, and hand off approved styles to production.

What Success Looks Like

• Complete, factory-ready tech packs for every style in the season
• Fewer sample rounds per style over time
• Fit that stays consistent across sizes and from season to season

What You Bring

• 6+ years in apparel product design and/or technical development, with swimwear, intimates or activewear experience required
• A portfolio showing both design work and production tech packs
• Strong command of stretch fabrics, swim construction, linings and fit across an inclusive size range
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, using your own software and equipment; experience with a PLM or tech-pack tool is a plus
• Experience working directly with overseas and/or domestic factories through sampling and production
• You design with cost and deadlines in mind
• Organized and comfortable working on your own

Nice to have: knowledge of sustainable materials and certifications (e.g. recycled nylon, GRS)

Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. Your portfolio matters more than your title history.
