After starting up “The Honest Company” in 2012, selling natural and eco-friendly home and beauty products, Jessica Alba couldn’t stop there. Her questions regarding the truth about daily products we use on a continual basis become harder to push away, after a few harsh reactions to things as simple as laundry detergent. After her first, and later second, daughter, Jessica became passionate about a natural and sustainable lifestyle, providing a safe environment for her number one priority: her family.
Putting acting on a temporary back burner, Jessica wrote “The Honest Life” where she discusses safe products in every aspect of our busy lives; living, food, beauty, and fashion. All her suggestions are backed up with justified information as to why it is a suitable, toxin-free substitute, and provides insight into the dangerous substances we are consuming, without any obvious impact. She announces in the introductory chapter, “Today there are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market that have never been properly studied to see if they’re toxic to our health.”
She dedicates a well-researched chapter solely focusing on sustainable fashion, and how we can select cruelty free wardrobe pieces while remaining chic and on-trend. Her main points include buying vintage and investing in key pieces that will be staples, and remain as a solid base for your wardrobe for years. “Every stylish woman should own a great blazer and a pair of ballet flats.” She recommends passing down clothes to your kids or friends, to recycle and reuse, and eliminate minimal waste.
The Honest Life was released in early March and is currently sold on newsstands worldwide. It has quickly become a New York Times Bestseller and a go to guide for concerned new mothers, young stylish women, and those concerned about reducing their carbon footprints by making ethical purchases driven by education.
