This week, art and fashion lovers will be getting together for a five day event that combines the very best of both these communities from Toronto and beyond the city. Now, going into its 8th year, |FAT| Arts & Fashion week was created by Vanja Vasic as a way to bring both a mainstream approach as well as an avant-garde approach to the fashion and art world.
Inspired from her travels to Europe, Vasic decided to organize both a fashion and arts multi-day event where people from all interests could come and enjoy various exhibits, installations, performances and runway shows. Another unique aspect about |FAT| is the draw towards one country of focus and sharing artwork and fashion collections throughout the course of the event. Every year there is a main theme along with sub themes for each day. This year’s theme revolves around Fashion Therapy which has also been the inspiration behind FAT’s very first fashion film under the same title.
Vasic has brought together some great Canadian designers such as Pedram Karimi, B.E. Shields, Myles Sexton, David C. Wigley and many more. A supporter of all fashion related university and college programs within Toronto, |FAT| has welcomed designers from schools such as Ryerson and Seneca College.
Very rarely can an event such as this one have the ability to catch and gather the attention of so many diverse admirers of different artistic and fashion backgrounds. With over fifty artists and designers, there is something for everyone to see. You will feel like you’ve been to the hottest gallery, music concert, film fest and runway show all at the same time.
