Throughout history, a woman wearing a fur coat represented a glamorous lifestyle. The elegant accessory became the quintessential garment for luxurious living, everybody from movie stars to royalty were seen donning these extravagant pieces. Eventually, consumers became more educated on the horrible way these accessories were created and the fur coat became less popular than ever. But lately, many designers have been using its faux friend in their collections, most recently Mulberry and Marc Jacobs debuted faux accessories during their Fall/Winter 2012 runway shows. This environmentally friendly alternative has allowed us to maintain the glamour of fur without all the guilt. As Karl Lagerfeld said, “technical advances are so perfect you can hardly tell fake fur from the real thing. Fake is not chic — but fake fur is.”
