Calgary Fashion Jobs – Ask For a Raise

Do you feel like you’re underpaid for the role you’re in? Many of us might feel we are, we sit in quiet resentment and never say a word. Here’s the thing, asking for an increase in salary or wage is extremely difficult. Here are some things for you to consider before asking for a pay increase.

1. The first and most important step is doing some research. You really should have done this part before accepting the job offer, and should have been part of your salary negotiation, but if you didn’t do that in the beginning then it’s time to do that now. There are many resources online that can give you comparative pay scales for various industries, try payscale.com.

2. The next thing you need to do is collect your job description and any performance reviews you have had with this organization, and the last one you were employed with (if applicable). Before you go and ask for that increase, you must feel that you fully understand everything detailed in your job description. Use this tool to your advantage; if you feel you exceed your job responsibilities then maybe instead of asking for a just raise, you can talk to your employer about a promotion! It never hurts to put it out there.

3. Write down specific examples of how you meet and exceed the details in your job description, keep these examples in your memory and let it boost your confidence. This will be useful when it comes time to sit down with your supervisor.

4. The last step is choosing the right time to sit down with your supervisor. Suggest a meeting time that is not during your actual shift, you should do this on your own time if you can. That way you will feel relaxed and at ease. Also be considerate of your supervisor’s time, ask when is best to have a meeting and take it from there.
Good luck!
