Calgary Fashion Jobs – Colour Jeans

In Fall 2011 we were given a sneak peek of what was to come in the world of denim. In fact holiday time brought upon us flashes of bright red and cobalt blue denim. Though the initial look was shocking, it didn’t take long before retailers couldn’t keep them in stock.

Looking forward to the spring and summer of 2012, it would be safe to say that coloured denim is here to stay!

Pastels:

Intimidating at first, there’s enough shades of denim this season to suit everyone. The colour trend for spring this year is driven by pastels which translate to denim perfectly. If you like to try new fashion forward pieces but are slightly more reserved check out stores for the lighter versions of coloured denim. Left, right: Zara $60, American Eagle  $44

Nod to Neon:

For those of you who rather stand out in a crowd your options are endless. Neon denim is making its mark in a big way. Think of a colour in the rainbow, change it to neon, and guaranteed you will be able to hunt this hue down at a number of retailers this season.

J Brand $176 US, Zara $80

Darker Shades:

If you’re somewhere in the middle and are not quite sure where to begin with coloured denim, there are options for you too! Dark shades of purple and orange, or the original red or cobalt blue are perfect options for the gal on the fence over this trend.

Forever 21 $18.50, Joe Fresh $19

Now that you have figured out where you stand, here are some tips to get you started:

1. Pair your coloured denim with white or black pieces, these staple shades will tone down your loud jeans

2. Choose a blazer in a neutral(or bold) tone to dress up your look

3. Don’t be afraid to accessories with other coloured pieces, make it pop!

4. If you’re really daring pick your top in a completely different bold shade than your jeans, now you’re colour blocking, two trends in one!

5. Try pairing your coloured bottoms with heels. The beauty of coloured denim is its ability to elongate your legs when matched with heels

6. It’s meant to be bold and bright so have fun with this trend and don’t be afraid to test new colours.
