Fashion Jobs – 5 Fashion Trends Every ‘It Girl’ Will Rock this Summer

Style Nine to Five - Fashion Jobs in CanadaMain Image (1)

As nice as it is to have a closet full of classics, fashion is meant to be fun and represent your personality. I’m a firm believer that every so often you need to inject a little excitement into your day-to-day wardrobe, and that’s exactly where trends come in. This summer, there are plenty of fun fashion trends to choose from, so we’ve rounded up a selection of top trends to look out for the next time you’re looking for an It Girl-approved update.

Clear Bags

Clear Handbags
Although maybe not the most practical accessory (or the most private), these bags add an instant cool-girl vibe to any outfit they’re paired with. Whether you choose to expose all your belongings or to hide them in an inner bag à la Céline, with one of these on your arm you’re sure to be 100% on trend this season.

Crochet

Crochet
If you’re into a look that’s a little bit boho, crochet is the summer trend for you. It’s both retro and modern, depending on how you incorporate crochet into your outfit. Found this season on everything from swimwear to dresses, it’s easy to scoop up a couple of crochet pieces that you’ll be wearing all summer long.

Gingham

Gingham
There’s nothing quite like a gingham print to remind you of picnics and warm summer nights. This simple check pattern is perfect for the office, but can also be an easy print to wear to summer weddings or garden parties. It’s a trend that’s taken over many Instagram feeds lately, but this is one that you’ll come back to for seasons to come.

Sunglasses (3)

Mini Sunglasses
Spotted on celebs like Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, and Bella Hadid, tiny sunglasses seem to be the trend that hasn’t died out. They’ve been around for a few seasons now, but have finally started to catch on in the mainstream fashion world. Look for a frame that’s as small as you can find it, and you’ve got yourself an edgy summer accessory that’s model-approved.

Polka Dots

Polkadots
This trend may already be sitting in your closet, so go ahead and break out your spotted and dotted best! Mini polka dots are everywhere right now, but there’s really no wrong or right size of polka dots to rock this season. Take a cue from Aimee Song of Song of Style, and pair a polka-dotted cami with a blazer for an outfit that easily transitions from work to cocktails.

Fashion Jobs – Two-Pieces You Can Wear to the Office This Summer

Style Nine to Five - Fashion Jobs in CanadaStyle Nine To Five_Two Pieces You Can Wear To The Office_Inspiration

Summer style is effortless, fun and most of all comfortable, which is definitely needed especially on those hot and sometimes humid days. A seasonal favourite of most women poolside and also that’s become a big style trend this year on the fashion streets are two pieces. From bathing suits to top and pant sets, two pieces are dominating this summer’s style picks for all sorts of events like festivals, weddings, beach trips and even brunch. But with most two pieces being cropped or short sets, it can be a little hard to take this trend into the office. You know we love making the hottest trends work appropriate, so of course, we had to share our list of two pieces that you can wear to the office!

Style Nine To Five_Two Pieces You Can Wear To The Office_Zara Two Piece Suit

Little Ray Of Sunshine
Bring the sunshine into the office while you’re stuck inside for most of the day with this deep yellow pantsuit from Zara. The blazer is a peplum style, a great alternative to your classic blazer paired with a skinny trouser sitting at mid-waist. This set can be paired with nearly everything from a blouse or t-shirt to heels or a white sneaker and is a great investment as each piece can be worn both together or separately.

Style Nine To Five_Two Pieces You Can Wear To The Office_Kelly Tie Shirt And Rainbow Stripe Co-Ord

Casual Co-ord
Casual Fridays don’t have to be boring with your typical t-shirt and jeans, and you can have fun with your outfits while still adhering to any dress codes. This casual two piece set from Boohoo is the perfect pick to wear not only to the office on Fridays but depending on your office culture can be dressed up with heels and accessorized to create a more polished look for the rest of the week.

Style Nine To Five_Two Pieces You Can Wear To The Office_Checked Double Breasted Suit Topshop

Check Me Out
Another great power suit, combining a classic cut with one of our favourite pattern trends, is this one from Topshop. This is definitively a suit that you’ll keep in your wardrobe for years to come with its timeless style. The only downfall is this isn’t available at Canadian Topshop inside Hudson’s Bay, and will need to be ordered off the UK Topshop site. But between the perfect grey check pattern and the versatility of this set, we guarantee it’s worth it!

Style Nine To Five_Two Pieces You Can Wear To The Office_Nude Large Floral PLT

Flowy Florals
We’re all about sets that look just as great with your closet staples as they do together, and this kimono and wide leg trouser set from Pretty Little Thing could almost be the poster child for versatility. Putting aside all the outfits these could make with other wardrobe pieces, together alone you can get totally different looks by wrapping up the kimono to leaving it open with a top. The light chiffon material makes it perfect for those warm days while still being appropriately covered for the office.

Perfectly Pieced Together
Looking for a co-ord set that’s a little different from a two piece suit? Then this striped combo from ASOS is a must-have! A button and tie-up shirt which even though are cropped works perfectly for the office when paired with something high waisted, like it’s matching culotte bottoms. This cozy co-ord set is perfect for those Mondays where you’d rather wear your PJs into work and is sure to be a favourite summer long!

Fashion Jobs – 5 Summer Office Wardrobe Staples

Tuesday, June 12th, 2018

Style Nine to Five - Fashion Jobs in CanadaMain Image (1)

With the warmer weather finally here, it’s time to start thinking about what to wear to work through the hot summer months. And as great as beach attire is, unfortunately, it’s not entirely office appropriate. Luckily, there are plenty of on-trend pieces that you can pick up this season to leave you feeling cool and comfortable in the heat, but still office-ready. Here are the top five wardrobe staples to include in your summer work wardrobe

Shirtdress

Shirtdress
When you’re looking to get out the door quickly in the mornings, a shirtdress makes getting dressed a snap. They’re a great versatile piece to have, especially in a cotton or linen to keep you feeling cool throughout the day.

Culottes

Culottes
Staying breezy and comfortable is the key to summer dressing, which can sometimes be difficult to adhere to while still maintaining a professional look. Enter the culotte: pants that are loose enough for a hot summer day, but still manage to make you feel put together and stylish.

Camisole 2

Printed Camisole
A printed camisole is a piece likely hanging in your closet that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. As for styling one, it works just as well with a pair of jeans on a casual day as it does with a blazer for a more polished vibe.

Jacket

Layering Jacket
In an office with a constantly changing temperature, the best way to be prepared is with a lightweight jacket. A denim jacket, a blazer, a military jacket, or even a cardigan are all great choices to keep on hand at your desk to throw on when the AC starts blasting.

Sandal

Chunky Sandal
One of the best things about summer is the ability to wear any type of shoes and not having to worry about your feet ending up wet or cold. Sandals with a comfortable heel in a neutral colour are a great office shoe to go with every possible outfit. Sandals are sometimes considered an office no-no, so just be sure to double check your company’s dress code to be sure that they’re allowed.

Style Nine to Five - Fashion Jobs in CanadaMens sunglasses Summer

Winter, spring, summer or fall, the sunnier days will always call for some stylish eyewear. Nonetheless, summertime is the peak season for men to be on the hunt for that final touch to add to their summer look, something that completes their image and gives them that extra boost of confidence.

Luckily, we have taken note of some of the hottest styles that fashion conscious men have been rocking everywhere this summer. Every face is unique and different and it’s important to find a pair of sunglasses that best speaks to your image and personality. Here is a list of five different trends of men’s sunglasses that are worth experimenting with this summer!

1. RoundThe Round Frame
If you’re a hip dude who enjoys rocking black fedora hats, skinny jeans and a colour palette limited to white, gray and black, then the all rounded frame sunglasses are perfect for you. A smaller structured face typically suits this super retro style; they are simply the cherry on top of the hipster’s image.

2. MirroredThe Reflector

Red, green, blue or yellow, the reflector shade is all about being the life of the party. No matter what colour the lenses are, these shades are sure to elevate your outfit and allow you to give off some fun summer party vibes. The reflector is perfect for giving your outfit just a little extra liveliness.

 3. WayfarerThe Wayfarer

For the cool, casual and sleek type, a pair of black wayfarer frames is the best pick for you. This pair of shades gives the face a very strong, masculine look and ultimately adds just the right amount of sleekness to any outfit. For the man who wants to look polished, fresh and dapper then definitely add the wayfarer style to your everyday look.

4. D-Frame SunglassesThe D-Frame

The d-frame is a simple style and offers a sportier vibe to a man’s look. The shape of the frame is very structured yet simple looking, which makes them great for more casual, laid back outfits.

Shop the Look: Saint Laurent D-frame acetate sunglasses, $405, available at Matches Fashion

5. AviatorThe Aviator

The Aviator is a classic style that more often than not seems to look great on all face shapes. While aviators have always been very popular with women, men are really picking up on this trend and pulling it off fabulously. Aviators are for the fashion conscious man who like to really pay attention to what they wear and who they are. It might be a classic frame but it offers just enough personality and edge to one’s look.

Fashion Jobs – The 5 Must Have Staple Bodysuits Every Woman Needs

Tuesday, August 1st, 2017

Style Nine to Five - Fashion Jobs in Canadabodysuit inspo

What began as an athleisure movement in the ‘70s by the fabulous Jane Fonda, the bodysuit has evolved into a fashion statement and is making its way into every fashionista’s wardrobe. The ease of having one fluid piece to wear is comforting to women as the thought of bunching, pulling, and shifting is a constant annoyance when dressing. Not only a great undergarment to wear, the bodysuit is constantly evolving and created in different fabrics like cotton and silk, and styles that are accessible and shaped for all women.

Yes, they can be intimidating and will take some getting used to (especially when visiting the ladies room), but a bodysuit is life changing when you see how flattering they are and how confident you feel when you don’t have to worry about underwear lines and any unexpected bunching. Here are a few bodysuit to inspire and share just how easily this one piece can be integrated into your wardrobe.

1. bodysuit netaThe Classic

It is always good to start out with a classic and simple bodysuit like a tank, t-shirt, or long sleeve. Wolford is a great place to start to gather the basics and then work your way up to the more daring looks. A classic tank like this has great strap support and a flattering neckline that is appropriate for office wear and will have you forgetting you are wearing a bodysuit with how comfortable the fabric is.

Shop the Look:
Wolford Jamaika Stretch Bodysuit, $195, available at Netaporter

2.Bardot bodysuit asosBardot Babe

A Bardot style top will always leave you feeling nostalgic as it reflects the fashion forward ‘50s and has a vintage feel to it. Showing your shoulders some attention, the Bardot is timeless and versatile as it can be worn modestly or as an evening out top.

Shop the Look: Off Shoulder Body with Wrap Front, $25, available at ASOS

3. bodysuit missguidedSilk Blouse

There is something very delicate about wearing silk, as it feels absolutely luxurious on the body. It’s sexy without showing off too much skin and a bodysuit form will make you feel more confident and comfortable knowing that everything is staying in place. A long sleeve silk blouse is a resourceful piece as it can be worn year round.

Shop the Look: Tall Brown Deep Plunge Satin Bodysuit, $45, available at Missguided

Urban Outfitters bodysuitStrapless Plunge

Strapless tops are making a comeback this summer to help women everywhere beat the heat. This sexy black number will give you all the feels of a bustier but a lot more comfort with the stretchy spandex and nylon combo. Wire molding supports the V-neck and the seamed paneling makes the suit more flattering and elevated for a quick and easy night out outfit.

Shop the Look: Out From Under V Wire Bustier Bodysuit, $40, available at Urban Outfitters

5. Button DownButton Down

Who would have thought you would ever be able to find an Oxford-style bodysuit? Every woman needs a crisp white button down; as it’s a work must-have, and an all year staple whether with jeans, shorts, and skirts. We always worry about the bunching and re-tucking, but with a bodysuit that is all avoided, creating smooth lines, and ease of mind.

Fashion Jobs – Blue Jean Baby: Denim Dresses for the Office

Wednesday, August 5th, 2015

ST95-ADS

denimdressinspiration

Times, they are a-changing. Once relegated to casual Fridays, denim in many cases has become more acceptable in offices and other workplaces and as a result, there are tons of diverse ways to wear it. Denim button-downs have been a staple for a few years now, but the spring runways (notably Gucci and Stella McCartney) have seen an onslaught of denim dresses that would work well for both the summer and fall months. As you may recall from a recentblog post discussing denim pinafore dresses, you can easily mix any given denim piece with other fabrics and textures to create a variety of different looks and moods. A looser, streamlined denim dress can look surprisingly sleek on its own, and a more frayed style will give you a gritty, urban feel – a far cry from the Canadian tuxedo. Almost as famous as the relationship itself, the world will never forget the denim gown Britney Spears wore in 2000 when she and Justin Timberlake first publicly acknowledged their rumoured romance. With any luck, your own denim dress will be just as memorable.
