Features & Spotlight Fashion Writer (Freelance)
Location:
Remote (Canada-based preferred)
About Style Nine to Five:
Style Nine to Five is Canada’s fashion industry job board and career resource site, connecting fashion-forward job seekers with top employers since 2010. We’re not just about jobs. We’re about careers with substance. Our content dives deep into what it really takes to thrive in fashion, retail, and creative industries.
About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced Features & Spotlight Writer to join our editorial team on a freelance basis. This isn’t an entry-level fashion writing role. We're looking for someone who can develop meaningful stories by building real connections with industry professionals.
You’ll be reaching out to and interviewing leaders at top companies like Aritzia, Lululemon, Mejuri, and many more. Your stories will explore what it’s like to work at these brands, how they’re hiring, and what job seekers need to know to get in.
Think:
• A day in the life of a merchant at Lululemon
• What Aritzia’s hiring team looks for and their hard no’s
• Spotlighting inclusive fashion companies and how they support their teams
• How Canadian fashion brands choose which cities to open in and what that means for job seekers
• How to land a role at a fast-growing DTC brand
You should know who to connect with, how to reach out professionally, and how to ask insightful questions that bring career stories to life.
What You’ll Do:
• Pitch and write 1 to 2 features per month for the Style Nine to Five blog
• Interview industry professionals including recruiters, team leads, and company founders
• Create compelling, SEO-friendly content that delivers real value to job seekers and employers
• Collaborate with our Managing Editor to shape stories and meet deadlines
You Should Have:
• At least 2 years of experience writing for an online publication
• Interviewing experience and strong storytelling instincts
• Understanding of fashion industry career paths and work culture
• Ability to research and identify the right people to interview
• Professional communication and solid follow-through
• A voice that’s insightful, approachable, and aligned with our tone
Nice to Have:
• Existing relationships in the Canadian fashion and retail industry
• Familiarity with brands like Lululemon, Aritzia, SSENSE, Mejuri, and Reformation
• Ability to source story leads and build ongoing professional rapport
Compensation:
$100 to $200 per article depending on experience and assignment scope
To Apply:
Send your resume, 2 to 3 relevant writing samples (features, interviews, or employer spotlights), and a short intro on why you’d be a fit.
We can't wait to read your work and see how you bring fresh, insightful stories to our community. If this sounds like the right fit for you, we’d love to hear from you.
