For as long as I can remember, I have loved Free People’s dreamy bohemian aesthetic, and naturally, I was thrilled to hear the brand would be opening their first Canadian store in Toronto. “Time and time again, we have customers who are long-time fans of the brand coming into the store and they are so happy the brand has made it to Canada,” said Store Manager, Megan Widawski. “They are really loyal. Free People is a lifestyle for them.”
It’s not hard to see why Free People has such a faithful Canadian fan base. Walking into the store, there’s an immediate sense of warmth. The beauty is in the intricate details; the elaborately carved mirror frames, the dyed patches of fabric on the back of the stairs, and the hand drawn flowers in the change rooms. These embellishments help to create a very distinctive atmosphere, one tailored specifically for the Free People girl.
“The Free People girl is a free spirit, she’s confident and isn’t afraid to stand out in a crowd, which is reflective in every aspect of her life. She’s a modern bohemian and she’s a dreamer,” explains Widawski. Further to that, Free People has always maintained five different profiles for each of their “FP girls” as a way to inspire customers: Meadow, the bohemian free spirit; Ginger, the confident and sexy girl; Candy, the girl who loves anything lacey and pretty; Sandy, the beachy girl for whom summer never ends and Lou, the adventurous tomboy.
Free People Toronto is located in the heart of Yorkville, at 79 Yorkville Ave. Follow them on Instagram and check out their Facebook page to stay up to date on the latest in-store events, sales and promotions!
