By the time February rolls around, most of us are dying to get a break from our winter garb and test-drive spring trends. Of course, sub-zero temperatures can make this a difficult venture. But it doesn’t have to be impossible! Here, I’ve adapted four spring trends so you can wear them now and also later! Read on for the full scoop:
Blue
Blue is definitely the big hue for spring. Pick up a lightweight blue sweater. For now it layers perfectly with a button-up and sharp, skinny-cut trousers for work. In a month or two it’ll look perfect thrown on over shredded boyfriend jeans with flats. Marithe’ F. Girbaud Sweater, $220, available at Yoox.
Pleats
Everyone from Dior to Viktor & Rolf featured pretty pleats for spring/summer 2014. Be sugary-sweet in a girly pleated skirt, thermal tights and a soft, fitted pastel sweater now. When the weather warms, try pairing that pleated skirt with a backless top and heels for a sweet-yet-sexy nighttime look. Valentino R.E.D. Skirt, $615, available at StyleBop.
Sheer
Sheer fabrics are still all the rage this spring. In particular, pieces that have sheer panels are huge. The point is to show just a hint of skin or pattern beneath the sheer panel. Sometimes it’s sexier to give just a suggestion instead of a full taste, right? Topshop dress, $100.
Boxy, cropped shapes
Boxy, cropped shaped tops and jackets ruled supreme at New York fashion week. These pieces are ultra-wearable and hide any flaws on the upper body. Pair them now with a slim-knit sweater, skinny jeans and chic riding boot. When the weather warms, try them over a tank top with a flippy mini skirt! River Island jacket, $120.
