Fashion Jobs – Spring Trends 2014: Menswear

 ST95-ADS

Even though we’re right in the middle of the Winter Olympics and images from the Fall/Winter runway shows at NYFW are overwhelming our newsfeeds, it will soon be time to start shopping for spring.  Menswear has been increasingly gaining the spotlight in terms of fashion trends to watch, and in North America specifically, men have been embracing a more European inspired way of dressing in the use of colour, cuts, and especially exposed ankles. Here are some of the top trends men can look forward to this spring.

1. Basics

Double breasted blazers and jackets have been popular in Europe and are now making their way to internationally accessible stores such as H&M. Consider this trend if you’re in need of a new blazer this spring, and don’t forget to layer a patterned shirt in a springy hue underneath.

1. H&M Double Breasted Jacket, $79.95

2. Hugo Boss ‘Javen’ Slim Fit Dress Shirt, $189.27, available at Nordstrom

2. Accessories

Next up are the accessories – as usual, once the ideal basics have been found, it’s time to add personality to create a complete and individual look. The Tie Bar is a celebrity favored online shop offering stunning neckties at only $15 a pop! So feel free to go wild and experiment with colours and prints. Put it all together with a bold watch and some fresh statement socks and you’re ready to go!

3. The Tie Bar Tossed Flowers in Red, $15

4. Momentum Cobalt Lite, $185, available at WATCH IT!

5. Pantherella Striped Dress Socks, $40, available at Harry Rosen

3. Jacket and Pants

Back to the basics again – trends are changing for outerwear, and men have been seen trading in their long trenches for shorter, more simplified versions. This shorter style can be worn longer into the spring season when the temperature rises with a lightweight chino. Think of it as an alternative to the always-popular denim jacket.

6. Zara Short Crossover Trench Coat, $159

7. Club Monaco Lightweight Kennedy Basic, $69.50

4. Weekend

Now onto his favourite part of the week – the weekend. Guys can look forward to choosing from an array of neon-bright trainers that are so rad they’ll want to wear them outside of the gym. Also, cute graphic tees are here to stay, and will always be a nice way for men to inject some personality in their casual wear. Lastly, a weekender bag that is both convenient and great-looking for spontaneous adventures and frequent neighbourhood trips alike.

8. Nike Lunar Internationalist, $99.99, available at Foot Locker

9. Banana Republic Heritage Bicycle Graphic Crew, $45

10. Everlane The Weekender, $95
