Plaid has been a wardrobe staple in fashion for centuries. Over the years it has really evolved as a pattern, first being a workers uniform, then to casual daily wear, to festive holiday wear.  Plaid has also made huge debuts on the biggest fashion runways this winter season. We have combined both runway and street style fashion and picked the four main plaidtastic items needed to make your holiday outfit perfect.

I always like to say outerwear should be used to top off your outfit not simply cover it up, this  beautiful plaid cape from Nasty Gal will do just that. Pairing this over a beautiful dress will instantly add a fashionable flare to your look.

A bolder way to add plaid to your outfit is wearing it as a centre piece. This daring plaid midi from ASOS is an impeccable example of how to outshine during the holidays.

If wearing a skirt covered in plaid is too much, wearing a basic black skirt with plaid tights would do the trick. When you’re new to a trend incorporating it subtly into your wardrobe is a good start.

Another fun way to add plaid to your outfits is with pretty shoes. These cute flats from ModCloth would be a superb addition to any holiday outfit.
