Started in 2011, self-named label Liana Marie is a Toronto-Oakville based jewelry brand selling in over 10 stores throughout the city.  Ever since this young, visual arts student from Western University took her first bracelet making class in 2007, she found her true passion and decided to quit her job to pursue her own business full time.  Educating herself by reading books and watching countless videos, Liana now works solo as her own boss running her very own label of modern vintage jewelry all handcrafted with her love and dedication!

SNTF: What is your life motto?

LS: Always be positive, be kind to others, and don’t be afraid to take risks.

SNTF: How would you describe your design aesthetic?

LS: I have an art history background so I am constantly inspired by years past. I get a lot of inspiration from periods of time like art nouveau and art deco. Even rustic spaces with a modern twist really inspire me, which you can definitely see in my fall 2013 collection. I love mixing metals and using vintage chain and brass in my work. Then I like to put a new material like crystals or stone beads with the vintage chain.

SNTF: How does a typical day for you look like?

LS: Every day is completely different. Some days I am in my studio from 8am to midnight, and some days I am running around in the city visiting my current stores. It really depends.

SNTF: What advice do you have for any other young entrepreneurs looking to start their own label/brand?

LS: Take risks, face your fears, and get out of your comfort zone. You learn so much about yourself by having your own business. I’ve learned that I hold back a lot, and it’s something I’ve had to work really hard to overcome (still working on it!). But through taking risks and doing things that are slightly uncomfortable for me, I have been able to learn and grow as a person and a business.

SNTF: What are your future hopes and dreams for you and your business?

LS: I hope to be a successful jewelry designer with a great team working with me, and a long list of amazing stores worldwide. I want to be able to give back to my parents as they have done so much for me, and have been my cheering squad this whole time.
