Fashion Jobs – Toronto Fashion Week Trend Round-Up

With Toronto Fashion Week officially over, it’s that time again when we take a look at the overall trends for the week, and what we can come to expect for Fall/Winter 2013. Let us know what your favourite trends from Fashion week were by tweeting us @StyleNineToFive.

Grunge: Fashion week darlings Chloe comme Parris presented another fantastic-yet-ready to wear collection at TWF, heavily inspired by the ‘90s grunge aesthetic. ‘90s fashion items have been staples at retailers for a while now, but the collection seemed surprisingly fresh. This isn’t your stereotypical grunge collection though; each piece had a feminine elegance that’s unique to CCP.

Moto Jackets: Moto jackets were featured in almost every runway show this year, suggesting it will continue to be a major trend for next fall. From Jeremy Laing to Rudask, everybody had a different take on the cropped garment. Joe Fresh featured a fantastic eminently wearable studded white version, while Mackage put a twist on the classic piece by incorporating patterned boiled wool.

Black and White: It’s no surprise that one of Spring/Summer’s biggest trends would somehow find its way into Fall/Winter garments. This classic colour combination was used extensively in Joe Fresh’s Parisian line up, in everything from the aforementioned moto jackets to basic turtlenecks. Pink Tartan also worked the colours into a fantastic mini dress, and later into a knee-length trench jacket.

Oversized Pieces: Notably absent from this year’s offerings are tailored peplum dresses and tops, a trend that dominated the runway for several years, especially in the Fall/Winter class. This year, we saw Jeremy Laing and others adopt a notably oversized look. Laing’s oversized sweaters and overcoats dominated the runway, Chloe comme Parris and Steven Tai offered up their varying takes on the trend.
