Toronto Fashion Jobs – Best Dressed Looks of the 2013 Red Carpet Season

All of the speculation and drama over award nominees, prior to the night of the elite event, proves to be only the beginning of the heated competition throughout red carpet season. What starts off with recognition of a performance exceeding excellence, ends in an all-out showdown of who was adorned to the nines. Face off begins upon arrival, and continues to thrive with each turn and step down that red carpet. Those nominated for two occasions; the talents, and the look, are the real winners of the night.

Throughout the top four award shows during the early months of 2013, celebrities brought to life some of the top runway trends of the season, posing in Prada, Dior, McQueen, Zac Posen, Armani, Emilio Pucci, Miu Miu, Marchesa, Gucci, Versace, and numerous other haute couture designers.

Golden Globe Awards – The Golden Globes certainly set the bar high in terms of fashion for upcoming award shows, scoring some of the most admired about gowns this year. Ruby reds and corals left viewers breathless, and ladylike lace was brought back with a more modern, feminine edge. Shape was a key deciding factor during pre-Golden Globe fittings, as deep v’s, elongated slits, and midriff cutouts were seen throughout the night. These four top looks made the cut: Kate Hudson (Alexander McQueen), Jessica Alba (Oscar de la Renta), Emily Blunt (Elie Saab), and Naomi Watts (Zac Posen).

Screen Actors Guild Awards – The SAG Awards offered rather muted looks. The fact that stars played it safe was a little disappointing and disconcerting, but nonetheless, there were some beautiful colour trends displayed, such as classic, modern black and white combination dresses, embellished mermaid green, and daring midnight blue. My favourites of this night were January Jones (Parabal Gurung), Amanda Seyfried (Zac Posen), Jessica Chastain (Alexander McQueen), and Marion Cotillard (Dior Couture).

Grammy Awards – The Grammy’s showcased a similar colour palette as the SAG awards, continuing black and white minimalism, bright blood orange, metallics, and greens. Singer/Songwriters opted for more daring looks on their big night, accenting with sheer paneling and deep cuts, ironically after the release of the strict wardrobe rules and regulations. Stars also took more risks in the accessories department, adorning in bold embellishments. Best-dressed winners include: Rihanna (Azzedine Alaia), Kelly Rowland (Paule Ka), Beyonce (Osman), and Taylor Swift (J Mendel).

Academy Awards (Oscars) – Alas! The biggest night in Hollywood arrived and beautified stars proved to us they were indeed, saving the best for last. Award season ended with a bang, seeing many happy young starlets leaving with their hands full. Style teams worked for weeks selecting from art deco inspired gowns, and more dazzling jewel tones to compliment the sensational night. “And Style Nine To Five’s Award for Best Dressed goes to….”, Jennifer Lawrence (Dior Haute Couture), Charlize Theron (Dior), Naomi Watts (Armani Prive), and Olivia Munn (Marchesa).
