Montreal Fashion Jobs – Style Stars To Watch

2012 brought many fashion game changers to the front lines, changing and challenging mainstream fashion, and influencing designers. The term “muse” has never been more prominent in our industry and it is broadening its own boundaries, straying away from the traditional actresses and musicians. We now more commonly place models, bloggers, and socialites at fashion shows and in the media more than ever before.

From beauty, fashion, and health, we scrounge just about every helpful and desirable tip out of them as we can. To start off, I’ve put together a review of the top five-standout style stars of 2012 and the five upcoming trendsetters to keep an eye on in 2013.

2012:

Cara Delevingne: Everyone and their mothers admire Cara. With her face popping up at every fashion week and quite a few fashion campaigns – couture and retail, it’s hard not to fall under her spell. With her signature thick brows, eccentric style and sense of humor, we can only predict this is the beginning for Cara.

Jennifer Lawrence: Jennifer has become a great role model for young women over the past year. Accepting her self and body for what it is, she spoke out against weight loss in the industry and has since become one of the tops to watch. Her natural image screams glamour; not to mention all of the drop dead gorgeous gowns she has picked for each red carpet event.

Lana Del Rey: A breakout musician from Lake Placid, Lana captures nostalgia with harmonic, retro vibes that have you reminiscing. Her baby doll look brings back the modern vibe of the ‘60s. She was the face of H&M and featured in plenty of fashion magazines in 2012, and released one of the most popular albums of the year. Her sultry pout and winged eyeliner add to her iconic image.

Leandra Medine (aka The Man Repeller): Nominated as one of the “Top 30 Under 30”, Leandra is pushing the boundaries of fashion post-by-post. Her blog “Man Repeller” shows off her quirky style while humorously making puns at pop culture today. You can catch a glimpse of her at front row, or live vicariously through her travels via Instagram – 267k, I might add.

Rita Ora: Aside from dating Rob Kardashian, which inevitably makes her the center of attention and topic of music conversation, Rita released her album, Ora, which was very well received. The UK singer has an unconventional signature look, which sets her apart from other breakout stars in the biz.

2013:

The Cast of Girls: The HBO TV Show “Girls” released its first season in early 2012, and has caught on fire since. Nominated for numerous awards for the 2013 season, the cast is being kept a close eye on, watching the every move of Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet. All four girls are to each their own with their quirky, individual styles.

Sky Ferreira: Starting the year off as the face of Saint Laurent’s Pre-Fall 2013 Campaign, Sky is combining her love for music and fashion with a full plate for this year as a singer, songwriter, model, and actress. Her album I’m Not Alright is set to debut this year.

Kerry Washington: Kerry has recently blown up since the release of Django Unchained in late December, and knows how to work the red carpet this award season. Often mixing metals and flaunting embellished frocks, Kerry knows how to keep it classy and trendy.

Elizabeth Olsen: She’s more than proved herself as an upcoming actress, breaking out from the shadows of her twin sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley, but she’s also proving herself with a unique sense of style on the runways and on the streets.

Ivania Carpio: If you don’t recognize her by her name, you may by her blog URL, Love Aesthetics. Ivania is the creator and DIYer behind her own fashion blog, acting as a creative outlet where she posts daily outfits and creations. Recently, she has been named a Style Muse for Oak & Fort, MTV Fora, and Nasty Gal, just to name a few. Her minimalistic style is au so natural.
