Fashion Jobs – The Wizards of Oz

Though to many, Australia might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “fashion”, its fashion community is making steady strides in becoming a true force to be reckoned with.  From May 2nd-6th, Sydney came alive with amazing show after show.  By general consensus, the following three are some of the best to have shown at Australian Fashion Week (RAFW).

Lover
After a five year hiatus from the runway, Lover’s comeback not only delivered on all points of sartorial excellence, but also introduced to the public the label’s new, more sophisticated aesthetic.

In terms of fabrics, sensual and feminine lace was undoubtedly the star of the show, but designers Susien Chong and Nic Briand grounded it by pairing it with clean and minimalist silhouettes.

Sara Phillips

Sara Phillips’ Spring/Summer 2011/12 collection was just what the doctor ordered for this coming season: 70’s inspired colours and silhouettes, unique styling, and every piece was wearable enough to take right off the runway.

The pattern-on-pattern pieces were especially covetable, but the colour pairings and disco-inspired looks were equally lust-worthy.  Definitely a collection that will inspire resonate through the market!

Dion Lee

I saved the best for last!  Dion Lee has not only been hailed as Australia’s most exciting new designer, but he is being compared and sized up against the world’s greatest rising designers as well.

His meticulously architectural and beautifully innovative collections have captured the fashion world’s collective heart.  Reflecting the vivid colours and clean skyline of Sydney, Dion Lee’s S/S 2011/12 collection carried strong modernist tones and touches of industrialism as well.

Since these designers haven’t made their way into most Canadian stores yet, your best bet is to shop online for them at the following sites:
