Pivoting into fashion from a different industry? 👀 Yes, transferable skills matter, but that’s obvious at this point. So what else can you actually do to stand out? Here’s exactly what founder and leading fashion recruiter @christie_lohr looks for on your resume 👇

If you don’t have direct fashion experience, that’s okay, but you need to show you’re tapped in:

✨ Any fashion-related certificates count (the LVMH Certificate is worth looking into)
✨ Had a retail job years ago? Put it back on your resume. It matters more than you think
✨ Passion project or a little fashion Instagram? Add it. Followers don’t matter, relevance does

And don’t sleep on your cover letter. She once had the same applicant apply to the same role 8 months apart; the first time she wrote a generic “thanks for your consideration,” message, the second time was about being a longtime Style Nine to Five follower and exactly why she wanted in. And guess what? She got an interview the second time.

One more tip: create a “relevant skills” or “relevant experience” section at the very top of your resume, tailored to the exact role you’re applying for. Doesn’t need to be chronological, just needs to be first.

Make it impossible for the hiring manager to miss how much you want this. 💫

This question had parts two and three, plus a bunch more questions from our Office Hours call, so keep your eyes on our Style Nine to Five Office Hours reels. More is coming! 👀
We had our very first Style Nine to Five Office Ho We had our very first Style Nine to Five Office Hours live call today! 🎉

Spots filled faster than I expected, and there’s already a waitlist for the next two. We touched on personal branding, moving into management roles, pivoting into fashion from another industry, and making a niche background feel transferable, so many good questions!

I’ll be turning today’s call into a bunch of reels for you this week, so keep your eyes on the feed 👀 First one drops tonight!

Thank you to everyone who joined today, this is exactly the kind of community I wanted to build. More Office Hours calls coming soon 💫

Want to stand out when applying for social media o Want to stand out when applying for social media or fashion roles? Don’t just send a resume and your handles. One applicant for a @styleninetofive content creator role had fashion school, a big IG and TikTok following… but her content was nothing like our brand. Huge missed opportunity.

If you really want the job, take 15 minutes to create a mini project: a few on-brand posts, a sample Reel idea, or a carousel you’d actually post for the company. Show you understand the brand and can do the job.

In a competitive industry, the candidates who go beyond the bare minimum are the ones who get noticed.

Save this for your next job application.
She’d been applying to fashion jobs for months a She’d been applying to fashion jobs for months and getting nothing back.

No interviews, no callbacks…nothing! So discouraging!!

She joined our Get Fashion Job Interviews video course, went through the lessons, and used the tools to redo her resume, cover letter and LinkedIn through a recruiter lens. We made her experience actually make sense for buying roles instead of looking “general retail.”

Not long after, founder @christie_lohr’s DMs started to change.

First: “Hey Christie, I had the interview with them in person.”
Then: “The first round went well, I’m going to have the interview for the next round this week.”
And finally: “They sent me an offer letter and they want to move forward with me.”

Same person, same background. The difference was how she was presenting herself and where she was applying.

As a fashion recruiter, Christie sees so many strong candidates get ignored for small, fixable reasons. That’s exactly why she built this course.

If you’ve sent 20+ fashion applications and heard crickets, and you’re serious about working in fashion, Get Fashion Job Interviews was made for you.

Comment “INTERVIEW” or DM us “INTERVIEW” and we’ll send you the details.
