Smithery started as an e-retail concept to make style easier and more accessible to Canadian women. Rena and Mavis, the co-founders, left their 10+ years in advertising leading some of Canada's largest accounts to pursue the brand's mission of democratizing style. And they haven't looked back since.
We hunt down fresh brands, curate the most flattering cuts by body shape, and model the clothes on REAL women. Approaching our 5th anniversary, the business has expanded to be a team of 5 women with two locations. Our core business driver is what we call Style Sessions where women learn their shape and shop one-on-one with a Stylesmith (stylist).
We are looking for a stylist who believes in the brand’s mission as much as we do to join our team as a Stylesmith.
So you wanna be a Stylesmith? Excellent! The primary role is conducting Style Sessions with Smithery clients in our Toronto studio (queen and spadina). Women fill in a questionnaire ahead of time to arrive to a rack of pieces that you will have pulled in advance for them. We pop a little bubbly, take their measurements, educate them on their body shape, and help them make outfits to flatter their shape. It is an affordable price tag ($20) and a relaxed atmosphere that really sets this experience apart. We will provide comprehensive training on success strategies for the sessions and how to educate clients on body shape. Our ideal lady is friendly, detail oriented, and has some experience in fashion (or sales).
We also run pop ups which is where the access to a vehicle criteria comes into play. These are approximately one per month where we pack two racks of styles curated to the event and introduce women to the brand. They are usually an evening or on a Saturday or Sunday.
Sessions are typically an hour to hour and a half plus prep time to pull the rack of styles. We are looking at 1-3 days a week at 4-8 hours a day. You can tell by the ranges that the position is inherently flexible and we are happy to work out a schedule together. (it may be the case that we hire two part time people to fill the role, for example, if that ends up being a better solution for everyone than a single hire).
There are also other elements of the role that can include things such as assistance with inventory, events, buying, order fulfilment, brand relations etc. All to be discussed and can be tailored into the final role description.
Compensation is $20 an hour plus commission (% to be discussed) and a clothing discount.
