Role Mission

The Buyer of Handbags is responsible for providing market expertise, filtering the assortment, and establishing buy quantities that meet the individual market needs and financial goals for the business within open-to-buy parameters. Demonstrates smart risk-taking in business and product decisions and clearly communicates and manages team to execute these decisions from showroom to selling floor. Builds strong partnerships with members of other cross-functional teams. Ensures team is optimizing stock to support the growth and meet sales targets. Supports the division by providing analysis and results for their category, recommends action against the results and follows through on executing this action. Coordinates daily activities across designated departments to facilitate responsibilities. Consistently keeps Gucci America a leader in the market by providing timely and insightful competitive feedback to direct and indirect reports and Worldwide Merchandising.  Supports upward mobility for Assistant and/or Associate Buyer by providing inspirational and balanced feedback consistently in order to position them for success.


Key Accountabilities


Business Management

• Manage the success of the department through developing and driving seasonal business strategies that exceed financial goals within open-to-buy parameters and optimization of stock to sales ratios;

• Ensure flow of inventory into business with close collaboration with Worldwide Operations and Supply Chain and Central Demand Planning;

• Achieve growth across all classifications and price ranges within open-to-buy parameters;

• Align with Worldwide Merchandising to ensure key messages, master orders or guidelines are implemented in the assortment for the very best benefit to Gucci America during buying campaigns;

• Develop assortment in accordance with overall strategies, brand growth strategies, and financial plans;

• Analyze selling trends and react with reorders and consolidations in collaboration with Inventory Planning, monitoring the progress of sales and profitability;

• Optimize assortments by store to exploit opportunities by market;

• Collaborate with Business Planning to forecast sales and trends;

• Study and report on competitors pricing, product, and merchandising presentation strategies;

• Initiating price changes in accordance with Worldwide Merchandising;

• Closely monitor monthly deliveries and communicate with Worldwide and Visual partners to ensure proper execution of planned visual display.


Retail Support

• Maximize sales and results by store through collaborating with the visual team to maximize exposure of best sellers and determine strategy for slow moving merchandise, optimize floor capacity, and support brand initiatives;

• Responsible for regional collection trainings quarterly and ad-hoc individual store trainings in-season;

• Foster understanding of local market needs and segmentation by eliciting feedback through constant collaborative communication with retail teams;

• Support and participate in in-store activities and events to increase customer loyalty;

• Frequent communication of new product arrivals and business trends.

• Cross Functional Collaboration

• Develop close and productive partnerships with regional retail team to ensure the specific needs of each market are met;

• Articulate seasonal strategies and key product messages to communication partners (PR, special events, marketing, etc.);

• Collaborate with special events and marketing to ensure seamless execution of events or brand initiatives;

• Deliver both qualitative and quantitative feedback on a monthly basis to planning and worldwide teams;

• Ensure the development, implementation and execution of company CRM initiatives through client-centric analysis and providing action plans to the team;

• Gather feedback from stores on daily performance in terms of sales, client profile, and client reaction.


Performance and Talent Management

• Create and manage development plans for direct reports to ensure job satisfaction and future development;

• Manages and coaches their team to prioritize their work, be store/client focused, and team-oriented;

• Lead by example with a high standard of professionalism, positive attitude, and desire to be at Gucci.


Job Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Fashion, Business, Finance or related discipline;

• A minimum of 4-5 years of relevant buying experience gained within a fashion and/or luxury environment;

• Experience in managing and developing a team;

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook;

• Flexibility to travel both domestically and internationallywith short notice and to work a demanding schedule which can include on an adhoc basis: evenings, weekends, and holidays.
