99 Problems and Shoes are Definitely One

Let’s face it, having a major shoe obsession is a real thing and it’ll always get the best of us when it comes to packing. As the fashionistas that we are, owning several pairs of shoes is the norm. Each providing a very specific function, however, when it comes to packing the essentials we will have to make some rather harsh cuts.

When it comes to traveling, you want to keep your shoe count to a minimum and if you can use one of those pairs as the pair you wear for travel day than you’re definitely a packing pro.

Your packed shoes should consist of a sneaker, a neutral evening shoe that will go with all of your outfits — a nude wedge is always a great choice and something that’s stylish yet comfortable like a chic ballet flat or a cool oxford. If you are traveling for a longer period of time, then four pairs is still perfectly reasonable, as long as you’re packing pairs that are lightweight and can easily transition from day to night.

Break Away from the “Just in Case”

As you begin your packing, it’s easy for your thoughts to drift away and think about all the activities you’ll soon be experiencing, and you completely forget what outfits you should be putting together. The next thing you know, your closet is half empty and you’ve suddenly packed most of your life away. Put the brakes on and step away from the overflowing luggage, take this moment to really think about what you will absolutely need and any of those “extra” throw-ins are realistically not necessary and should be left behind.

Stick to the Basics

With a great sense of style, comes a serious collection of fashion-forward pieces that elevate our wardrobe. However, when it comes to packing for travel, it’s best to keep those fabulously trendy pieces safe at home and to stick to the basics. Your basics will be easier to pack and will allow for more than one wear if needed. Pack items like plain white tees, tank tops, a basic pair of denim or another basic pant and a simple dress (that could be for day or night). These items will take you much further in terms of packing lightly, rather than trying to pack multiple trendy shirts, blouses or dresses.

Plan Ahead

An easy way to narrow your packing habits down to the essentials is to strategically plan your outfits. Take this opportunity to put on a little fashion show for yourself and play around with your wardrobe. See what outfits can be worn more than once in different ways. This will not only save you room in your luggage but it will also save you from any kind of wardrobe malfunctions when deciding what to wear out during your holiday.

Ease Up on Toiletries

So you’re all packed and ready to go until you just have to throw in your overflowing cosmetics case. By leaving this item to the last minute, your luggage runs the risk of putting on a few extra unnecessary pounds. However, there is a simple solution to keeping your luggage at the ideal weight it needs to be. Since you’ll only be on the go for a short period of time, you should pack your toiletries accordingly. Do you really need a super large bottle of face cream and cleanser? Or your two full sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner? The answer is no, so downsize your liquids and soaps to smaller bottles. Prior to leaving, head to a drug store and pick up travel sized products. Make sure your cosmetic bag is clear of any excess items and all you have are the essentials.

If you follow these getaway-packing guidelines, you’ll be looking chic and effortless, while feeling comfortable and relaxed. What are your favorite travel packing tips? Let us know in the comments below!
