Basic Function:

The Product Developer is responsible for executing the development of all seasonal product designs. Core functions include the creation and management of technical specification documents, material sourcing, development of new product, managing key calendar dates, and driving communication from design through to commercialization. Working close with the Production Director to implement and execute vision from design into product and packaging with a focus on quality, adherence to budge, fit, innovation, and accuracy. Reporting directly to the Director of Development & Production, this person ensures accurate documentation and communication through the product development process, and that the footwear collection is ready for production on time.


- Work closely with the Director of Development & Production to drive product development through to commercialization
- Create and revise technical specifications along product development process ensuring accuracy
- Constantly be pushing for innovation and improvements to current product offering
- Responsible for sourcing materials and trims
- Responsible for developing and proposing special treatments, independently and with Design.
- Ensure suppliers are delivering development samples to spec and on time
- Recommend new or streamlined construction methods
- Research and propose new and innovative materials and treatments
- Maintain a relevant awareness of new technologies and processes
- Review 2D blueprint drawings, prototypes and samples ensuring quality, fit and intended creative vision
- Work closely with the Director of Development & Production to ensure design can be realized in bulk production
- Monitor costs of new product through development and provide solutions
- Work with the Director of Development & Production to ensure development and design are hitting key calendar dates
- Drive communication between Director of Development & Production, Director of Product & Design to ensure product success

Qualifications & Technical Abilities:

- 3+ years experience working in footwear product development. Experience within Athletic or Lifestyle categories preferred
- Post-secondary degree in Industrial Design or related design field. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered
- Ability to read and understand 2D blueprint drawings, 3D rendering skills a plus
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Familiar with Mac operating systems platform
- Familiar with opening and developing injection molds
- Understanding of footwear construction methods, pattern making, fit, and lasts
