We’re all about empowerment, especially when it comes to successful women who create a name for themselves in such a competitive industry. #GIRLBOSSES is an exclusive Style Nine to Five series where we feature both inspiring and successful women in the fashion industry about how they go to where they are today.

This month’s #GIRLBOSS is Rebecca Ramsdale, a Merchandise Team Lead and Social Media Coordinator at Urban Outfitters. We asked her about how she landed her dream job.

Style Nine to Five: What steps did you take to get to the position you have now?

Rebecca Ramsdale: I applied about a year and a half ago to be a men’s part time sales associate, and knew I would have to work my butt off to get as many shifts as I could. My Store Merchandise Manager took notice of all my hard work and asked me to apply for the Merchandise Team Lead Position. Less than a year later, I became really passionate about taking product photos for our @UOToronto Instagram. I talked up how much I wanted to run the account to anyone that would listen, and eventually they asked me to take over!

SNTF: What is the best advice to give for those who aspire to work in the fashion industry?

RR: Tell every person you talk to what you want to do, and where you want to go with your career. Someone out there wants to help you reach your goals.

SNTF: What is your favourite part of your job?

RR: Creating. I love making something out of nothing.

SNTF: Which #GIRLBOSS inspires you in the professional world?

RR: I would say the Girlboss herself, Sophia Amoruso. Being able to take a passion and turn it into a career is so inspiring, and I hope to be able to do the same some day!
