One of my favourite trends for Summer 2013 is the minimalistic ankle strap. Chic, simple and sophisticated, the ankle strap can be rocked on almost any type of sandal and is a stylish way to show off our pedicures during the warmer months of the year. Ankle strapped sandals look great paired with cropped pants, rolled up jeans, skirts, shorts or mini dresses, and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. While a stiletto version is perfect for an elegant night out, a flat sandal or wedge version can be worn for a sleek daytime look.
The great thing about this trend is that there are so many different styles to choose from. Popular retailers such as Zara and Steve Madden carry ankle-strapped sandals in a variety of colors, textures and exotic prints. Wear a colour-blocking sandal with a bright-hued/neon strap to make an eye-catching statement, or a strap with metallic hardware to give your look a sexy edge. If you’re worried about ankle straps making your legs appear shorter, go with a thinner strap in a nude tone or a clear/transparent strap for a more elongating look.
A surprising benefit of this summer shoe trend: comfort! Besides being super chic, ankle straps provide an extra bit of support to hold sandals onto your feet comfortably all day long.
